Our School
PARENTS
At Northwest we strive for each to succeed socially and academically. These are the skills kindergarteners learn to help meet this goal:
Social/Emotional Skills (i.e. Kindness, Compassion, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Good Sportsmanship)
Alphabet – All 52 letters (upper and lowercase), their sounds, and formation.
40 sight words to master (read and spelled) by the end of the year (10 each 9 weeks)
Spelling and reading simple words ( ex. Bus, bat, big)
Writing simple sentences and stories.
Learn how to count 0-100, by 10s, 5s and 1s.
Recognize, write, and represent numbers 0-20
Add/subtract 0-10 throughout the year (this involves using different manipulatives and ways to find the answer)
Comparing Numbers
Kindergarten uses Standards Based Learning to report successes and struggles within the required standards. We look forward to working with you and your child this year!
