Flower Dissection and Pollinator Projects

Fourth Graders used zinnias from Northwest’s garden to investigate the flower parts. They observed the external and internal parts. The students used the flower parts to create a model and label the parts. The flower was the most interesting. They found the pistils, anthers, and the stamens. A few had seeds already forming. The project included researching and describing the jobs of each plant part.

After this project, the students were ready to look at flowers from a pollinator’s perspective. They were able to choose a flower that would attract their pollinator and explain their reason for choosing it.
