Today, we celebrate Washington Middle School Literacy Instructional Facilitator Suzette Calloway and the positive impact she makes each day!
Her fellow colleague, Haley Moore, said, “The support that Ms. Calloway offers to us (teachers) is nothing short of a blessing. I am convinced that she is Superwoman in the flesh. She is always there for us, ensuring we have everything we need to be the best we can be for our kids. She is a phenomenal leader and is a pro at making you feel like you’ve had a load lifted off of your back. There’s not a single thing she doesn’t have a lesson idea for or resources to offer up. What I’ve loved most about my time with Ms. Calloway this year is how well she’s prepared my team to successfully create a data protocol in our subject area for the PLC process. That can be a stressful conversation, but she presented ideas to us in a way that helped us feel confident and excited about what this will do for our kids. She’s even taught us effective ways to practice recording data for our students, so that we will feel prepared to confidently take on this step for the 2022-2023 school year. I have learned so much from this sweet lady. I look up to her in 1,000+ ways, and I look forward to utilizing all that I’ve learned from her in my career as an educator until the end of my time in the field! Thanks for all you do, Ms. Calloway!”
Thank you, Ms. Calloway, for everything you do to support our teachers, in turn supporting our students!

Sarika Mohandas graduated from Southern Arkansas University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She currently teaches 5th-grade math at Washington Middle School.
She chose SAU “primarily because the teaching program fit my requirement and also because of the supportive faculties who guided me through the process.” One of the things that made her time at SAU so special was the support and guidance she received from the faculty and staff. She said they “go out of their way to help their students.”
Thank you, Ms. Mohandas, for sharing about SAU! If you are interested in learning more about Southern Arkansas University, visit https://web.saumag.edu/.

All ESD schools will dismiss at 2:25pm this Friday, March 18th.

If you didn't know, March 14th is Pi Day! Students across the district celebrated the numerical holiday through various activities. Ms. Cupples's 7th grade math classes used different circle shaped food items to find the parts of a circle (radius, diameter, area, and circumference). Then, they used the price of the items to calculate the discount, tax, and total cost. Awesome job, Wildkittens!

Today, we celebrate Hugh Goodwin Elementary 2nd grade teacher Brigitte Haney and the positive impact she makes each day!
Her fellow colleague Olivia Fitzgerald said, “Mrs. Haney is always willing to help others. As a new teacher to Hugh Goodwin’s family, she welcomed me with open arms and is there any time I need her.” That nurturing attitude extends into the classroom according to current parent Shayna Newton. “She is an awesome teacher who cares about students and goes above and beyond for them. She builds self-confidence in them.” Newton’s daughter, Graysen, said Mrs. Haney is “easy to talk to.” What better way to make an impact than by supporting others?!
Thank you, Mrs. Newton, for all you do for our students!

Brooklyn Alexander-Lee, K-4 Art teacher at Northwest Elementary, attended the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). She graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film & Television and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts.
Mrs. Alexander-Lee chose SCAD due to its highly-regarded reputation. “SCAD is renowned for its Fashion, Film & Animation programs, and I was provided with some of the highest-quality equipment and opportunities to learn from real, working professionals while there.” She also enjoyed the small-town living of Savannah, but the close proximity of Atlanta, which was “close enough to get involved in the film scene.”
One of the things that makes SCAD so special is the opportunity to study at different campuses. “While I was primarily located in Savannah, Georgia, I also had the opportunity for one quarter to study at the SCAD Lacoste campus in France, a small medieval village an hour north of Marseille, which was converted into dorms by the university. Our classes often involved field trips to the many historic sites in France and the chance to travel to surrounding European countries, which was a dream come true for an art & architecture nerd, like myself.”
Mrs. Alexander-Lee also said, “Another fun fact about the school is that some of our professors are real-life celebrities. My acting professor played the dad in the Disney Channel show ‘Phil of the Future’ and our Dean of Entertainment Arts played in ‘Switched at Birth’ and ‘Chicago Med.’”
Thank you, Mrs. Alexander-Lee, for sharing about SCAD! If you are interested in learning more about Savannah College of Art & Design, visit https://www.scad.edu/.
