Here's a sneak peek of the books that will be included in the Battle of the Books in the fall.

More than 500 of the state's brightest young men will attend Arkansas Boys State, an immersive leadership and civic engagement experience sponsored by the American Legion. This summer's 82nd annual session runs May 28 through June 2 at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
During their week at Arkansas Boys State, these students, known as "delegates," are assigned a political party, city, and county. Throughout the week, delegates, from the ground up, administer this mock government as if it were real: they run for office, draft and pass legislation, solve municipal challenges, and engage constituents. By the week's end, the delegates have experienced civic responsibility and engagement firsthand while making life-long memories and friends.

Arkansas Girls State is sponsored by the ALA Department of Arkansas since 1942. This year's Girls State program is housed at Harding University. This opportunity provides citizenship training; affords them an opportunity to live together in fictional cities and counties as self-governing citizens; informs them about the duties, privileges, and participation in the functioning of their government; and helps them prepare for some responsibilities that with adulthood.
The delegates elect their own officials, organize their own legislature, and have official visits with their real-life counterparts in the Capitol.
