The WMS orchestras had the opportunity today to discuss composing with an Arkansas composer, Drew Morris, via Google Meet. They learned about his evolution as a musician; they asked questions about his composing process; they were even able to give him ideas to use in the commissioned musical work that he will compose for our orchestras 5th-12th grade this year. This was all made possible through the EDEF grant awarded to the orchestra this fall.

WASHINGTON COMES TO WASHINGTON. Sarah Elizabeth Guevara recently with ABC News and now with MSNBC from Washington D C visited with the Journalist class and the Competition Shake class on October 4th. Guevara fielded multiple questions from the young journalist as well as shared stories about being a political journalist in Washington DC. She emphasized getting a good education, the importance of being a good writer and communicating well. In Shake class she taught the students how to write a thank you note, practiced proper hand shakes, and discussed dressing as a professional. Guevara stated she wants to leave the students with a simple message, “Treat everyone with equal respect and always give back to your community.”

Students in Ms. Braswell's 6th period finished their projects a day early and got to play with the items in the makerspace.  They decided to make a “cage” for their classmate using the makerspace items. Very impressive!
